Supreme Court Nullifies PDP Ibadan Convention Results

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has nullified the People's Democratic Party (PDP) convention held in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2025, which resulted in the emergence of a factional leadership led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN. This decision concludes a lengthy legal dispute that began when the Federal High Court had previously restrained the party from proceeding with the convention, citing violations of the party's constitution and unresolved disputes from the state congress.

Despite the existing court order, the PDP proceeded with the convention, leading to further litigation. The Court of Appeal upheld the lower court's decision, stating that the PDP's actions were in defiance of a valid judicial order.

Subsequently, the Turaki-led faction approached the Supreme Court to overturn the ruling regarding the validity of the convention. However, the Supreme Court affirmed the earlier judgment, effectively voiding the Ibadan convention and ending the legal disputes surrounding the legitimacy of the factional leadership that emerged from it.
