Supreme Court Voids PDP Ibadan Convention Led by Turaki

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has ruled to void the People's Democratic Party (PDP) convention that took place in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2025. This convention had resulted in the emergence of a factional leadership led by Tanimu Turaki, which had been embroiled in a prolonged legal dispute.

Prior to the convention, the Federal High Court had issued a restraining order against the PDP, citing violations of the party's constitution and unresolved disputes from the state congress. Despite this order, the PDP proceeded with the convention, leading to further litigation.

The Court of Appeal upheld the lower court's decision, stating that the PDP acted in defiance of a valid judicial order. Subsequently, the Turaki-led faction approached the Supreme Court to overturn this ruling.

However, the Supreme Court affirmed the earlier judgment, effectively nullifying the Ibadan convention and concluding the legal disputes surrounding the legitimacy of the factional leadership that emerged from it.
