Supreme Court Reserves Judgment on PDP Convention Appeal

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment on an appeal filed by the Taminu Turaki faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), seeking to overturn a judgment that nullified their national convention held in Ibadan last year. A five-member panel, led by Justice Garba Mohammed, announced the decision on Wednesday.

The appeal was prompted by a ruling from Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had restrained the PDP from proceeding with the convention until Alhaji Sule Lamido was given the opportunity to purchase a nomination form to participate in the election for national office. Despite this order, the PDP faction conducted the convention, leading to the appeal.

The Court of Appeal had previously disagreed with the trial court's jurisdiction over the internal affairs of political parties, resulting in the nullification of the convention. The PDP faction is now urging the Supreme Court to accept their appeal and set aside the lower court's judgment.
