Mass Defection Hits PDP as Makinde Loyalists Exit

On Thursday, a significant defection occurred within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as loyalists of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced their exit from the party. This move follows months of internal disputes within the PDP, with factions reportedly aligning with either Governor Makinde or Minister Nyesom Wike.

Among the prominent figures who resigned are gubernatorial aspirant Olufemi Oguntoyinbo, Special Adviser on Security Fatai Owoseni, and Akeem Olatunji, the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area. Other notable defectors include Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Abiodun Fadeyi and members of the House of Representatives Anthony Adepoju, Abass Adigun, and Adedeji Olajide Fadeyi.

The defectors cited the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP as detrimental to governance and expressed the need for a political environment that allows citizens to enjoy good governance. Reports indicate that Makinde's loyalists are preparing to leave the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
