Six Oyo Lawmakers Defect from PDP to APM

On Tuesday, six members of the Oyo State House of Representatives announced their defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Peoples Movement (APM) during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abba. The lawmakers—Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajid, Sundai Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunl, and Adigun Adekunl—cited ongoing leadership crises and internal divisions within the PDP as reasons for their departure.

This move follows Governor Seyi Makinde's recent exit from the PDP to join the APM, where he has declared his intent to contest the 2027 presidential election. The defection brings the number of APM members in the Oyo State House of Representatives to six out of fourteen.

Meanwhile, the PDP experienced mixed outcomes, with a loss in Oyo State but a gain in Bauchi State, where Auwalu Gwalab defected from the PDP to the APM. Other defections from various parties were also noted across different states.
