Military Arrests Officers in Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu

The Nigerian military has made significant arrests in connection with an alleged coup plot aimed at overthrowing President Tinubu's administration. Among those detained is Major H.

Yusuf, a member of the Nigerian Army who recently completed a senior course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji. The military confirmed the arrest of 16 officers on October 2025, describing their actions as indiscipline and a breach of service regulations.

Defence Minister Christoph Musa revealed that senior officials were allegedly marked for elimination as part of the conspiracy. Although details of the alleged plot remain unclear, investigations are ongoing, and no formal charges have been publicly announced.

The military has indicated that the conspiracy may extend beyond its hierarchy, involving several top government officials. The situation is further complicated by a history of military coups in Nigeria, with the last civilian rule established in 1999.
