BREAKING: National Assembly Takes Action Over Lawmaker’s ‘Cash for Motions’ Claim

The National Assembly has taken action following a claim made by Ibrahim Auyo, an APC lawmaker from Jigawa State, alleging that members of the House of Representatives receive payments to sponsor motions, bills, and petitions. Auyo stated that legislators spend millions to introduce bills or motions on the House floor, with payments ranging from N3 million to N1 million.

In response, Akin Rotimi, a spokesperson for the House of Representatives, stated that the allegation is unsubstantiated and risks undermining public confidence in the National Assembly. Rotimi emphasized that such statements must be backed by verifiable facts and evidence.

The matter has been referred to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges for further investigation, following parliamentary procedure. Auyo has been invited to substantiate his claim, failing which appropriate action will be taken.
