Reps Demand Details of N2.4trn Contractor Payments

The House of Representatives directed the Attorney General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, to provide a detailed breakdown of the N2.4 trillion payments made to contractors for Federal Government projects. The directive came after concerns were raised about delayed payments to indigenous contractors, leading to partial settlements.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu emphasized the need for transparency and warned against fictitious project claims. Speaker Abbas Tajudeen highlighted the importance of curbing corruption and revenue leakage in government spending, citing annual losses due to procurement fraud.

The National Assembly is pushing for tighter procurement laws and reforms to enhance accountability in project execution and financial management.
