SERAP Demands Probe of Alleged ₦3m Bribes for Bills in National Assembly

Rights group SERAP has called for an investigation into allegations of lawmakers paying ₦3 million bribes to present bills in the National Assembly. The demand comes after Rep.

Ibrahim Auro claimed that some lawmakers were part of a scheme where they paid bribes to sponsor legislative proposals. SERAP has urged the EFCC and ICPC to identify and probe the lawmakers involved in this practice.

The group emphasized that bribery undermines the lawmaking power of the National Assembly and violates the constitutional oath of office. SERAP has given the National Assembly leadership a seven-day ultimatum to take action on the matter, warning of legal action if accountability is not ensured.

Auro had previously alleged that lawmakers paid millions to present bills, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in legislative functions.
