NDLEA Arrests Ex-Councillor, Seizes Drugs and Explosives

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, a former councillor from Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, on March 2, 2026, during a nationwide anti-narcotics operation. The agency recovered 40 kilograms of skunk strain cannabis from his residence.

Olalekan, 45 years old and a two-term councillor representing the Orimedu community, admitted ownership of the drugs. Additionally, on March 3, the NDLEA apprehended Emeka Hyginu Okwor, a 32-year-old businessman, who was found with 1,000 pills of tapentadol concealed in baby diapers.

The drugs were reportedly intended for delivery to Guduwa village in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State. Other arrests included Mei Ali Muhamat, a 36-year-old Cameroonian, and several suspects across various states, leading to the seizure of significant quantities of drugs and explosives.

NDLEA Chairman, Moham Buba Marwa, commended the agency's efforts in combating drug abuse and trafficking.
