NDLEA Arrests Ex-Councillor Olalekan in Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, a former two-term councillor of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council in Lagos State, on March 2, 2026. The arrest was based on credible intelligence linking Olalekan, 45, to the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in the area.

During the operation, the NDLEA also intercepted Emeka Hyginu Okwor, a 32-year-old businessman, who was traveling to Obollo Afor, Enugu State, with 1,000 pills of Tapentadol 250mg concealed in a pack of baby diapers. The agency reported a series of arrests and drug seizures across several states, including the interception of 1.55kg of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis, and various other illicit substances.

The NDLEA's operations have led to the dismantling of an opioid cartel, recovering drugs worth N6.7 billion and arresting key cartel members, including Onyekachi Piu Nwanagu.
