NUPRC Revokes Oritsemeyin Rig License Over Safety Concerns

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has revoked the operating license of Oritsemeyin Rig due to safety concerns following a wellbore kick incident. The directive to cease operations was issued after the company failed to address the issue within the stipulated timeframe.

The revocation, in line with the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, was a result of the unexpected flow of oil, gas, and water in the wellbore, leading to additional costs and safety risks. Selective Marine Services, the operator, had been previously notified of the issue but failed to resolve it.
