Nigeria to Replace NYSC Khaki Uniform with Adire Fabric

The Federal Government of Nigeria has decided to replace the traditional khaki uniform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with locally produced adire fabric. Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, disclosed this during an interview on Thursday.

The initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at promoting local manufacturing and ensuring government spending supports the Nigerian economy. The adire fabric is produced in Nigeria, specifically in Ogun and Kwara states.

Additionally, the NYSC is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul, the first major reform since its establishment in 1973, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council. The reforms include a new framework for deploying graduates, ensuring that their professional backgrounds are considered, and addressing security concerns for corps members, particularly in regions facing challenges.

The Minister dismissed reports suggesting the military would remove the NYSC, describing such claims as misconceptions.
