NYSC Reforms: New Specialized Streams and Camp Structure

The Federal Executive Council approved significant reforms for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), as announced by Minister of Youth Development Ayodel Olawand and Special Adviser to the President Bola Tinubu, Hadiza Bala Usman. The reforms will split the orientation program into three distinct phases and introduce 11 specialized career streams that corps members will select upon registration.

The orientation camp experience will be reshaped, extending the program to three weeks, divided into three phases: the first two weeks focusing on civic responsibility and leadership development, and the final two weeks dedicated to specialized training aligned with corps members' academic backgrounds and career interests. The reforms also include a redesign of NYSC uniforms and an upgrade of the national grading certificate system.

This overhaul is part of a broader initiative to build human capital in Nigeria's economy, which aims to reach a target of 1 trillion naira.
