Presidency Rejects Obi's Call for Tinubu's Resignation

The presidency of Nigeria, represented by special adviser Bayo Onanuga, responded to Peter Obi's call for President Bola Tinubu to resign, describing the demand as childish and politically motivated. Obi's request was based on claims of worsening insecurity and economic hardship in the country.

Onanuga argued that Obi's comparison to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's resignation was misplaced, asserting that Nigeria's presidential system does not allow for forced resignations under political pressure. He highlighted recent electoral victories by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as evidence of public support for Tinubu's administration.

Onanuga also defended the government's record on security, noting significant successes in rescuing kidnapped victims and arresting terrorists. He pointed to improvements in Nigeria's GDP, foreign reserves, and oil production as indicators of economic progress.

The presidency maintained that Tinubu remains focused on implementing reforms despite global economic challenges affecting living costs.
