Tinubu Warns on Peaceful Conduct for Council Elections

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued a strong warning concerning the upcoming area council elections scheduled for Saturday in Rivers and Kano states, as well as bye-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State and the Kano Municipal Ungogo constituency in Kano State. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu appealed to eligible voters to participate peacefully in the democratic process without fear.

He emphasized that democracy flourishes best in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance, and mutual respect. The President urged political parties and candidates to avoid violent provocations that could undermine the credibility of the polls.

He also warned security personnel against intimidation and stressed their role in safeguarding lives and properties while ensuring the sanctity of the ballot. Tinubu called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen public confidence and ensure efficient voting procedures, accurate result collation, and prompt transmission in line with the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act.
