BREAKING: Security forces arrest most wanted Ansaru terrorist leader, Abu Baraa

Nigeria's security forces have successfully arrested the most wanted leader of the Ansaru terrorist group, Abu Baraa, who is accused of orchestrating numerous attacks across the country. The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, made the announcement during a special press briefing at the National Centre in Abuja.

Baraa had been on the security forces' radar since May and was finally apprehended in July, marking a significant breakthrough in Nigeria's fight against terrorism. Ansaru, an affiliate of the global jihadist movement, was initially formed in 2012 as a splinter faction of Boko Haram but quickly shifted its focus to attacking Nigerian security forces, civilians, and government infrastructure.

The group has established urban sleeper cells and forest enclaves across several cities in northern Nigeria, particularly around the Kainji National Park.
