Court Sentences Three to Death for Terrorism in Katsina

On June 13, 2025, a Federal High Court in Katsina sentenced three individuals—Yusuf Muhammad, Alia Sallau, and Jabbi Alhaji Yall—to death by hanging after they were found guilty of terrorism-related charges. The court also ordered the forfeiture of monetary exhibits recovered from the convicts to the Federal Government of Sokoto.

This ruling follows the arrest of the defendants by the Counter Terror Unit for their involvement in cross-border crime and arms trafficking. In a related case, Hauwa U Mukhtar, a female arms courier, was sentenced to death for transporting 438 rounds of ammunition for a bandit kingpin.

Earlier, a quartet consisting of Idri Abdulmalik, Omeiza Al Qasim, Jamiu Abdulmalik, and Abdulhaleem Idri was sentenced to death by the Federal High Court in Abuja for their involvement in an attack that killed 40 worshippers in Owo, Ondo State. Additionally, Jibrin Halilu received a death sentence from a Kogi State High Court for conspiracy to kidnap and murder at a hotel in Obajana, Kogi State.
