House of Reps Clash Over Electoral Act Amendment Bill

On Tuesday, during a routine plenary session, tensions escalated in the House of Representatives over the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2025. Speaker Dr. Tajudeen Abba opened the session, which quickly turned contentious as lawmakers clashed over a motion to rescind the earlier passage of the bill.

Adebayo Balogun, the chairman of the House Committee on Electoral Matters, submitted a motion to waive the previous decision, citing the need to correct inconsistencies and avoid unintended legal consequences. The motion faced immediate backlash, particularly from members of the minority caucus, leading to a chaotic atmosphere as lawmakers shouted and exchanged heated remarks.

Jigawa lawmaker Abubakar Yalleman was seen gesturing angrily towards Osun lawmaker Bamidel Salam. The Speaker ordered the doors closed for an executive session as tensions rose.

Outside the chamber, anonymous members accused unnamed forces of attempting to alter the already passed bill, warning that any such moves would not be tolerated.
