Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu Acting IG After Egbetokun Resigns

President Bola Tinubu has officially accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun from his position as Inspector General of Police, which he had held since June 2023. Egbetokun's term was scheduled to conclude in June 2027.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tinubu expressed appreciation for Egbetokun's distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and acknowledged his dedication and commitment to strengthening the internal security architecture during his tenure. Following Egbetokun's resignation, Tinubu appointed Tunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police, as the acting Inspector General of Police with immediate effect.

The President expressed confidence in Disu's operational experience and leadership capabilities, which he believes will provide steady focus and direction for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period. Furthermore, Tinubu indicated that he would soon convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu's appointment as the substantive Inspector General of Police, which will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
