Tinubu Approves 28,000 New Recruits for Nigerian Army

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant expansion of the Nigerian Army, which includes the recruitment of 28,000 new personnel and the establishment of 12 operational divisions across the country. This initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture and improve military operations in response to various security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and oil theft.

The new divisions will be strategically located in regions such as Kaduna, Ibadan, Jos, Makurdi, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Ilorin, Jalingo, Lagos, Enugu, and Benin City. The implementation of this expansion will occur in phases, with the first phase focusing on the establishment of the 5, 9, and 10 Divisions, expected to be completed by September 2026.

The second phase will involve the establishment of the 83 Division in Benin City, projected to conclude by December 2026. President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the military and praised the dedication of military personnel during an interfaith Iftar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
