Tinubu Removes NMDPRA Chief Saidu Mohammed, Appoints Umar

On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the removal of Saidu Mohammed from his role as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). This decision was made in the public interest, as stated by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President.

The appointment of Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive is subject to Senate confirmation. The decision aligns with the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021 and aims to strengthen regulatory effectiveness in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Rabiu Abdullahi Umar brings 25 years of experience across the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors, along with a strong background in strategic leadership and operational transformation of large-scale projects. He holds a degree from Bayero University and has attended Harvard Business School.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing Chief Executive for his service and wished him well in future endeavors, reaffirming the administration's commitment to capable leadership in regulatory institutions to drive energy security and economic growth.
