NMDPRA's Rabiu Umar Launches Overhaul Agenda for Oil Sector

Rabiu Umar, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), unveiled an operational overhaul agenda during his maiden town hall meeting with staff at the agency's headquarters in Abuja. The agenda aims to strengthen regulatory discipline, improve efficiency, and deepen professionalism within the oil and gas regulatory space.

Umar emphasized the importance of a strict value system and fair administrative conduct to guide the agency's operations. He urged staff to embrace discipline and collaboration to fulfill the agency's responsibilities effectively.

This meeting marked the first major internal engagement since Umar's appointment by President Bola Tinubu on April 29, 2023, to replace Saidu Mohammed, who was dismissed after less than four months in office. Umar's leadership change is part of a broader internal restructuring drive expected to reshape operational procedures and enhance regulatory enforcement in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
