PDP Leadership Dispute Heads to Supreme Court Amid Crisis

The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that the Supreme Court, rather than the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will determine the legitimacy of the party's leadership structure. This statement follows INEC's recognition of the national working committee aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister.

The faction, led by Turaki, has already approached the apex court to seek a definitive ruling on the dispute regarding the party's leadership. They described the recent convention, held on Sunday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, as illegitimate and claimed it was organized in defiance of ongoing legal proceedings.

The faction's spokesperson, Ememobong, stated that the matter will be diligently pursued in court. The internal crisis within the PDP is alleged to be influenced by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with claims that the APC government is attempting to undermine the PDP as an opposition party in Nigeria.
