PDP Schedules Presidential Primaries for May 2026

The faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Nyesom Wike has officially set the date for its presidential primaries for May 23, 2026, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections. This decision was reached during the party's 106th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

The timeline for the primaries includes the submission of the party's membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by April 10, 2026. Following this, state assembly primaries are scheduled for May 2, national assembly primaries for May 9, and governorship primaries for May 16.

The NEC emphasized compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires the issuance of election notices at least 300 days before the scheduled date. The party also plans to hold its national convention on March 29-30, 2026, to establish a new national working committee.

The NEC expressed satisfaction with the recent peaceful conduct of local government congresses and urged party leaders to pursue reconciliation among members.
