Michael Kayode Chooses Italy Over Nigeria for National Team

Michael Kayode, a 21-year-old long throw specialist for Brentford, has announced his decision to represent Italy's national team, the Azzurri, at the senior level, while expressing pride in his Nigerian heritage. Born in Borgomanero, Italy, to Nigerian parents, Kayode has previously earned caps for Italy's U18, U19, and U21 teams.

He believes he is in a favorable position compared to his Nigerian counterparts in the race for a senior cap. Kayode's eligibility for the Super Eagles remains, but he must apply in time to change his association.

The Italian Football Federation, under the management of Gennaro Gattuso and Eric Chell, is prioritizing players born in Italy. Kayode hopes to earn his first senior cap when Italy faces Northern Ireland in the 2026 World Cup playoffs next month.
