Kalu Earns Dual Doctorates, Focuses on National Issues

Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, recently earned two doctoral degrees: a Doctor of Law and a Doctor of Philosophy in Policy and Strategic Studies from the University of Calabar and the University of Abuja, respectively. His first thesis evaluates the effectiveness of anti-terror legislation in Nigeria, addressing human rights challenges and examining the balance between national security and civil liberties.

Kalu's research critiques Nigeria's counter-terror framework, particularly the Terror Prevention Prohibition Act of 2022, and offers practical recommendations for policymakers. His second thesis focuses on the government's capacity to integrate international climate adaptation strategies, specifically addressing Nigeria's vulnerabilities to climate change, such as flooding and desertification.
