Kalu Defends Against Allegations of Certificate Irregularities

Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, addressed allegations of irregularities concerning his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge and law school graduation certificates. During a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Kalu dismissed these claims made by the Coalition for Good Governance (CGG), which demanded his resignation within 72 hours.

Kalu's Chief Press Secretary, Levinu Nwabughiogu, stated that the allegations remain unproven and lack substantiation, characterizing the coalition's actions as an irresponsible attempt to convict Kalu in the court of public opinion. He emphasized that the existence of a petition does not equate to proof of wrongdoing and that the Deputy Speaker is a duly qualified legal practitioner.

Kalu was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2011 and subsequently enrolled as a legal practitioner with the Supreme Court of Nigeria, having undergone rigorous verification of his academic qualifications.
