British High Commission Celebrates Team Nigeria's Success

The British High Commission in Nigeria, represented by High Commissioner Richard Montgomery, hosted Team Nigeria athletes and officials to celebrate their impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. Nigeria emerged as the top African team, finishing 7th overall in the medals table, with a total of 10 gold medals out of the 22 won by the African continent.

Montgomery praised the athletes for their achievements and acknowledged the support provided by coaches and officials. He expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations with the National Sports Commission (NSC) to enhance Nigerian sports.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, thanked the British High Commission for its assistance, including visa facilitation for athletes and supporters. He highlighted that Nigeria set three of the six world records established at the Games and emphasized the importance of this international platform for future competitions, particularly the Olympics.

Dikko also sought support for Nigeria's bid to host the 2034 Commonwealth Games.
