Team Nigeria Shines with 24 Medals at Glasgow 2026

Team Nigeria achieved a remarkable performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing a total of 24 medals: 10 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze. This achievement made Nigeria the highest-ranked African nation and seventh overall on the medals table.

The athletes excelled in five sports: para powerlifting, weightlifting, athletics, para athletics, and judo. Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), described the athletes' accomplishments as a significant milestone in Nigeria's sporting history.

Notably, Nigeria's para powerlifters won six medals, including three golds and three silvers, with Esther Nworgu winning gold in the women's lightweight event and Folashade Oluwafemiayo defending her title in the women's heavyweight category. Weightlifting contributed four medals, while athletics emerged as the largest contributor with 12 medals.

The performances underscored Nigeria's growing strength in elite sports and the impact of renewed investment in athlete preparation.
