Budget Office Confirms No Funds for Non-Existent Council

Tanimu Yakubu, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, stated that no public funds were allocated to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). During a session with the House of Representatives’ Committee, he explained that although the National Assembly approved funds for the PFIPC in the 2026 budget, the necessary legal and administrative conditions for accessing these funds were not met.

Yakubu emphasized that the appropriated amount was merely a statutory provision and did not translate into actual expenditure due to the country’s expenditure control mechanisms. The controversy arose following the arrest of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the disowned Director-General of the PFIPC, after a warrant was issued by Justice Mohammed Umar.

This situation prompted President Bola Tinubu to order an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Yakubu clarified that his office did not create the council and that no funds were drawn from the budget for it.
