PFIPC Budget Inclusion Confirmed by Budget Office Chief

On Friday, Dr. Yakubu Tanimu, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, confirmed that the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), led by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, was included in the budget through official instruments established under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration on 9 October 2019.

This confirmation came during an investigative hearing by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which aimed to assess the oversight roles of the National Assembly in the budget process. Tanimu stated that while the National Assembly appropriated funds for the PFIPC, the actual expenditure did not occur because the necessary legal conditions for financial clearance and expenditure were not met.

He noted that the initial request of N3.8 billion for personnel costs was reduced to N802.98 million by the Budget Office. Tanimu emphasized the distinction between appropriation and expenditure, asserting that public funds only move when legally permitted.
