BudgIT Appoints Vahyala Kwaga as Nigeria Country Director

BudgIT has appointed Vahyala Kwaga as the Country Director for Nigeria, effective April 1, 2026. Kwaga succeeds Joseph Amenaghawon during a leadership transition period.

He has a robust track record in governance research and leadership, having joined BudgIT in 2021 and held several key roles, including Senior Research Head at the Open Governance Institute and Deputy Country Director. Kwaga's diverse professional background spans the legal and private sectors, with experience as a legal officer and senior research associate.

He holds an LLB (Hons) from Ahmadu Bello University, an LLM (First Class) from the University of Ibadan, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Administration at Babcock University, Ogun State. In his new role, Kwaga will focus on improving the quality of BudgIT's outputs, strengthening public policy engagement, and expanding funding opportunities.

Oluseun Onigbind, BudgIT's Global Director and co-founder, emphasized Kwaga's expertise and leadership qualities as essential for advancing BudgIT's mission in civic innovation and public accountability across Africa.
