Edo Government Demolishes Building Linked to Ritualists

The Edo State Government, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, demolished a building in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, on June 2, 2026, linked to suspected ritualists. The demolition followed a security operation that uncovered decomposed bodies, including that of a gatekeeper, prompting investigations into ritual murder cases.

The operation was carried out by the Edo State Security Corps and the Nigeria Police Force, supervised by senior security officials. Barr John Izegaegb, the Secretary of the Edo State Security Squad, confirmed that the building was sealed off based on intelligence reports.

Evidence recovered from the site included laptops, machetes, a battle axe, native pots, and documents inscribed with references to ritualism. Governor Obaseki reiterated the government's commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the community and urged residents to report any suspicious activities.
