Nigeria's NDLEA Launches National Drug Strategy Initiative

Nigeria is taking decisive action against the scourge of illicit drugs, spearheaded by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The agency's chairman, Brig Gen Moham Buba Marwa (Rtd), emphasized the need for a robust national response, which includes public awareness campaigns and community engagement.

The NDLEA's strategy combines enforcement and prevention while recognizing the necessity of rehabilitation and alternative development programs. Recently, a pilot scheme was launched in Ondo State to curb illicit cannabis cultivation, aiming to uplift rural communities and strengthen national security.

Marwa highlighted that the alternative development strategy extends beyond mere crop substitution, aiming to bolster rural economies and reduce the burden on law enforcement. The success of the pilot project has garnered overwhelming support from local communities and traditional leaders, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in drug control efforts.

The NDLEA remains committed to expanding these programs nationwide, aligning with the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu's administration.
