Nigeria Strengthens Global Anti-Drug Trafficking Efforts

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global collaboration in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and transnational organized crime. This commitment was articulated by Brig Gen Buba Marwa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), during a graduation ceremony at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) training academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Marwa emphasized that the increasing sophistication of criminal networks across borders necessitates deeper international cooperation and coordination for a global offensive against drug syndicates. He noted that these criminal organizations no longer operate within isolated territories, making intelligence sharing and joint operational capabilities essential for dismantling drug cartels.

The ceremony included participants from Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya, focusing on enhancing investigative strategies and enforcement capabilities. Marwa paid tribute to fallen officers and expressed confidence that the knowledge gained by the graduates would significantly enhance operational effectiveness within the NDLEA.

He also conveyed Nigeria's appreciation for the DEA's mentorship and investment in capacity development.
