Lagos Government Justifies Oworonshoki Demolition of Unsafe Buildings

The Lagos State Government has defended the recent demolition of buildings in Oworonshoki, labeling them as illegal and unsafe structures that posed risks to lives and property. Dr.

Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, clarified that the demolition followed due process and engagement with stakeholders. Residents protested the demolitions, claiming they were sudden, but the government had issued prior warnings.

The commissioner highlighted the dangers of unapproved buildings, citing past tragedies. He warned against illegal land sales and the transformation of makeshift shelters into permanent structures, emphasizing the need for compliance with regulations.
