Buni Warns Against Divisive Narratives Threatening Nigeria

On Thursday, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni raised concerns regarding the growing divisive narratives that threaten Nigeria's stability during a courtesy visit to Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, the Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Buni warned that unchecked toxic narratives could lead to the disintegration of the country, emphasizing the need for peace and reconciliation. He lamented that divisive statements from political leaders deepen existing fault lines and urged Nigerians to collectively resolve differences.

Buni condemned the celebration of the killing of security personnel, labeling such reactions as unpatriotic. He highlighted the importance of adhering to democratic decorum and warned against the misuse of social media for attacks on leaders.

Buni called for religious leaders to promote peace and unity instead of division and urged political actors to prioritize national unity over personal ambition. He reiterated that Nigeria's cohesion is paramount for development and stability.
