Burna Boy Sets Spotify Record with 47.4M Listeners

Burna Boy has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first African artist to reach 47.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. This record was propelled by the success of his song "Dai Dai," a collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira, which serves as the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The song peaked on the Spotify Global Top Song chart on June 30, making Burna Boy the first African artist to top this chart. Previously, the record was held by South African singer Tyla, who reached 46.58 million monthly listeners in December 2025. "Dai Dai," released on May 15, has accumulated 123 million streams on Spotify alone and is available in five languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Japanese.

The track blends Shakira's pop style with Burna Boy's Afrobeat influence and was co-written by Ed Sheeran and Jon Bellion. Burna Boy's performance at the World Cup opening ceremony on June 11 further contributed to his rising popularity.
