FG's Strategies to Combat Insurgency and Kidnapping

Daniel Bwala, serving as a special adviser to the Federal Government of Nigeria, detailed strategies aimed at ending insurgency and kidnapping during a panel discussion linked to the podcast "Echoroom." He emphasized the need for the government to recruit and retrain security personnel, noting that the current strength of security forces is insufficient given Nigeria's population and land mass. Bwala proposed investing in forest guards to prevent terrorists from exploiting forest areas.

He also mentioned the importance of expanding the presence of local police and the Department of State Services (DSS) within cities, highlighting initiatives in Lagos State to develop community-based policing. Additionally, Bwala discussed the deployment of drone technology for surveillance and intelligence gathering, which would aid in counter-terrorism efforts.

He revealed that Nigeria has formed a joint military partnership with neighboring Sahel countries for the first time in its history, focusing on training and operational support against terrorism.
