Rivers Police Restrict Movement for Upcoming By-Election

The Rivers State Police Command issued a statement announcing a restriction on human and vehicular movement in seven local government areas in Rivers State ahead of the River South East senatorial district by-election set for June 20, 2026. The restriction will be enforced from midnight on June 19 until 6:00 PM on June 20, 2026.

This measure aims to enhance public safety, protect electoral officials and materials, and prevent electoral malpractices. The affected local government areas include Andoni, Tai, Khana, Gokana, Elem, Oyigbo, and Opobo Nkoro.

Police spokesperson Bless Agab emphasized that the restriction does not apply to accredited officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security personnel on election duty, and emergency service providers. The Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, urged political parties and candidates to support the peaceful conduct of the election and warned that any violations of the movement restriction would be dealt with according to the law.
