Rivers Police Announce Movement Restrictions for Elections

The Rivers State Police Command, represented by Mr. Olugbenga Adepoju, announced a temporary restriction of movement in seven local government areas—Andoni, Tai, Khana, Gokana, Elem, Oyigbo, and Opobo Nkoro—starting from 12:00 AM on June 19, 2026, until 6:00 PM on June 20, 2026. This measure is part of a comprehensive security strategy to guarantee a peaceful, orderly, free, fair, and credible electoral process for the River South East Senatorial District election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The restrictions will apply to individuals, vehicles, and motorcycles in the affected areas, with exceptions for accredited officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security personnel on election duty, and emergency services. The command warned against any actions that could disrupt the electoral process, including voter intimidation and violence, stating that violators would face legal consequences.

Adepoju urged political parties, candidates, and residents to maintain peace and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a successful electoral exercise.
