Senate Rescinds Call for CAC Boss's Removal After Apology

The Nigerian Senate has rescinded its earlier call for the removal of Hussaini Magaji, the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), following his apology for not attending a previous budget defense session. During the session, which took place in Abuja, Magaji expressed remorse for his failure to respond promptly to the committee's invitation, attributing the oversight to a communication gap within his office.

Senate Committee Chairman Sani Musa highlighted a pattern of reluctance from Magaji to attend committee sessions personally, often delegating senior officials instead. The Senate had previously recommended to President Bola Tinubu the removal of Magaji due to these issues.

However, after his appearance and apology, the committee members, including senior lawmakers like Yahaya Abdullahi, showed understanding and called for a second chance. The Senate motion to rescind the removal call was moved by Senator Isa Jibrin and seconded by Senator Sani Daura, with Magaji expected to reappear before the committee to defend the CAC's budget proposals for 2024 and 2025.
