Senate Demands Removal of CAC Boss Over Absences

On Thursday, the Nigerian Senate called on President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Hussaini Magaji, the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). This action follows Magaji's consistent refusal to appear before the Senate Finance Committee, despite multiple invitations.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu expressed frustration over this disregard for legislative oversight, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding the CAC's revenue matters. The tension escalated during a committee meeting when it was noted that Magaji had provided excuses for his absence, including a trip to London.

Senator Adam Oshiomhole proposed withholding the CAC's 2026 budget approval until Magaji appears before the committee to clarify previous expenditures. The Senate underscored its constitutional oversight role, particularly concerning revenue-generating agencies, and emphasized the importance of transparency in the CAC's operations.
