Samson Adamu Becomes CAF's First Nigerian Secretary-General

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Samson Adamu as the acting Secretary-General, marking a significant milestone as he becomes the first Nigerian to occupy this role since the organization's inception 70 years ago. This announcement was made by Ademola Olajire, the Director of Communications for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Adamu's appointment follows the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who stepped down to run for the presidency of the Congolese Football Federation (FECofa). Prior to this appointment, Adamu served as CAF's Director of Tournament and Event, where he played a pivotal role in the successful organization of major continental competitions.

His nomination was proposed to the CAF Executive Committee and ratified during a congress meeting held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Cairo.
