CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba Resigns Amid Controversy

Veron Mosengo-Omba announced his resignation as General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after five years in office, stating his desire for peace of mind following a controversial tenure. His resignation comes in the wake of disputes surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final match, where Senegal's football team was initially defeated by Morocco but later awarded a 3-0 victory due to a forfeit ruling.

This decision was appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Additionally, Mosengo-Omba faced criticism for remaining in office beyond CAF's official retirement age of 63, amid allegations of workplace issues.

Samson Adamu has been appointed as the interim General Secretary while the search for a permanent replacement begins. CAF President Patric Motsep announced major reforms, including an expansion of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament from 24 to 28 teams and a shift from a biennial to a quadrennial schedule starting in 2027.
