CAF Considers Postponing 2027 AFCON as Algeria Faces Sanctions

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is contemplating postponing the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) amid doubts about the host nation's preparedness. Algeria received significant sanctions totaling $150,000 after their loss to Nigeria in the AFCON quarterfinals.

The sanctions were imposed for various offenses, including inappropriate conduct, general brawl, and fan misconduct. Several Algerian players, including Luca Zidan, Fisayo Dele Bashiru, and Rafik Belghali, received suspensions.

The Algerian Football Federation plans to appeal the penalties, describing them as unfair. CAF is expected to review the incidents involving Algeria during the AFCON.
