CAF Expands Women's Africa Cup of Nations to 16 Teams from 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the expansion of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations to 16 teams starting from the 2026 edition. This decision marks a significant growth milestone for women's football on the continent.

The tournament format will now include a preliminary stage where 11 nations will compete for four additional slots. CAF's increased investment in women's football was highlighted, with a rise in prize money to 45 million for the recent tournament held in Morocco.

Nigeria, the reigning champion, received 1 million in prize money. CAF President Patrice Motsepe commended the progress made in women's football.
