CAF Expands Women's Africa Cup of Nations to 16 Teams in 2026 - Boost for Women's Football!

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the expansion of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations to 16 teams starting from 2026. Initially set for 12 nations, the tournament will now feature a new format likely including a third preliminary round.

This decision aims to boost women's football development, with an increased prize pool of $45 million for the 2022 edition in Morocco. Nigeria, the 10-time champion, will receive $1 million for winning.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe emphasized the importance of equal pay for men and women in football to enhance the sport's growth and ensure career opportunities for female players.
