CAF Opens Bidding for 2028 Africa Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), encouraging African nations to host the continent's premier football tournament. Ethiopia, Morocco, Botswana, and South Africa have emerged as the first contenders, with a submission deadline set for February 2026.

This bid exercise will also cover the 2032 and 2036 editions of AFCON, allowing interested countries the opportunity to compete for hosting rights over the next decade. Ethiopia aims to host the tournament independently, while Morocco seeks to leverage its experience from previous successful international events.

Botswana and South Africa are pursuing a joint bid to showcase regional cooperation and utilize combined sports infrastructure. CAF has outlined that the evaluation process will consider various requirements, including stadium infrastructure, training facilities, accommodation capacity, transportation systems, security arrangements, and overall organizational capability.

The confederation expects to conduct comprehensive inspections before making a final decision on the successful host.
